Melbourne has a rich culture with diverse communities living together. If you are interested in history and culture of this beautiful city, Immigration museum is your one stop.
Have you visited it yet?
Yes and a museum I would thoroughly recommend to anyone old and young. I took my dad there on a recent visit to Melbourne and it opened both our eyes to the immigration history and cycles Australia has experienced. The museum is broken into eras and excellently demonstrates our progression as a country. The exhibitions are brilliant and range from photos, video and audio excerpts - personal stories of immigrants which make the stories so very rich and warm. My dad was pleasantly surprised when he saw one of the exhibits showcased a woman he knew from Friuli. She was a pioneer and stalwart in the fashion industry in Melbourne by using a machine which enabled her to weave wool and cotton into clothing. The museum also has interactive pods installed allowing you to immerse yourself into the history. Parents and teachers alike, will find this an excellent learning tool combining history with the latest in technology. Very clever way of getting kids to enjoy their museum visit. It's probably not one of the first museums you would immediately think of going to see - but you certainly won't be disappointed.
