For a city that sleeps early, White night is a welcome change. A 7pm to 7 am event, draws huge crowds as a celebration of art, street performances, food-vaganza. Have you seen these events?

Yes, we were out till 2 pm. It was a fun night. Was surprised to see hoards of people on the street
Yes I was there this year. Amazing line-up of activities and performances to watch. It was superrrr crowded but sooo fun!
Funny story, I wanted to attend the first White Night but forgot it was on. The night of the event I went into town with my camera to do some night shooting while my partner was watching a footy game.

I could tell there was some major fetival being set up but it did not click that it was White Night so I went down and photographed along the river, only realising to my dismay when I got home what I had missed.

So I made a conscious effort to go to the second one. The crowds were insane! The lighteing displays were spectactular and I enjoyed these immensely.

It was a real shame that the massive crowds meant that seeing most internal displays was almost an impossible feat. I hope they organise it to run for a whole weekend next time and spread out the venues. The set up this yaar meant most people were bogged up trying to negotiate Swanston Street.

Everyone was so well behaved though and I had a ball photographing all the incredible light displays.

I'd recommend making a night of it and booking a room in town. That way you can have dinner and maybe grab a few hours sleep before heading out in the wee hours when the crowds will have hopefully dissipated a little.

I suggest finding a nice little restaurant a few streets away from the action for a well earned break and rest for your legs.

It is such a worthwhile event though and i hope it continues to grow and improve.
Yes, I live in Sydney, but we attended it 2 years running, The 1st time we saw it, it was much more interesting than the 2nd time we went to it. We were with our eldest daughter & her little daughter & baby, in Fed' Square.
