These days extreme sports are enjoying unprecedented popularity as urban dwellers look for wilder, more daring ways to break the monotony of city life.

Although sports such as white-water rafting, snow-boarding, jet-skiing and parasailing look like loads of fun, sometimes it's hard to know which to try and where to find safe reliable places are to learn the ropes.

Have you ever tried any extreme sports in Melbourne? What did you do and where did you go? Where can you hire suitable equipment if you don't have your own? What places do you recommend?

For me, even getting on the Melbourne Star was quite extreme! But I have heard of Flyboarding, where you actually jet out of the water into the air with a stream of water propelling you out of the water. That looks really extreme.
Years ago I went jetskiing near Dunk Island in Queensland, but I've never been in Melbourne.

Something I'd love to try is a jet boat ride! The St Kilda Spinner does jet boat rides on Phillip Bay. If flying is more your thing, Oz Parasail operates on the Mornington Peninsula.
