People choose to live in different suburbs for different reasons. Proximity to place of work, close to arterial roads or public transport, good public schools, excellent community feel, lots of community space, etc.

Which suburb is a good one to live in Melbourne, and why do you think so? There are some suburbs which should be avoided for certain reasons (high crime rate, congested roads, etc.). Which suburbs can be avoided?

suburb, Melbourne, best, good, bad

i would say Oakleigh, Caufield, Carnegie, Mount Waverley, Mulgave are some great suburbs with good schools and low crime rate and cleanliness. I would avoid Dandenong, Sunshine, Springvale and Footscray for safety and drug issues.
I live in the SouthEastern suburbs, and Endeavour Hills, Narre Warren and Berwick are all excellent places to live. The hills in the backdrop give all the suburbs a unique beauty, and the schools are good too.
I would avoid Doveton, Eumemmering, Hampton Park as they are congested and poor urban planning as it seems overcrowded and bad infrastructure.
I recently moved to Endeavour Hills (south-east) and I really like it here. Very peaceful but not deserted. I also find the eastern suburbs are relatively nice too.
